Poetry Workshop with J. Bailey Hutchinson In-Person
Description of workshop: What deserves to live in a poem? A delicate rose, a lost love, a sunset dipping behind a hill? Or can we look elsewhere—to our gnarled and frightening experiences, to the "ugly" things? In this workshop, we will read, write, and discuss poetry that confronts the notion that some things simply “aren’t poetic enough” to write about. We will also explore poetic forms and writing exercises that lend music, tangibility, and weight to our subjects.
Short bio: J. Bailey Hutchinson is the author of Gut: Poems, selected by Patricia Smith as the winner of the 2022 Miller Williams Poetry Prize.
