Writing an Engaging Memoir: Three Keys to Unlocking Your Story In-Person
Writing memoir is not easy, but it’s fulfilling and exciting and well worth the hard work, no matter what form that memoir takes. You can change lives, including your own, by sharing your story. Memoir writers understand there are three critical pieces to creating an engaging memoir: 1) Shaping your story; 2) Discovering meaning; and 3) Finding your voice.
In this workshop we’ll discuss all three. Crafting a memoir is not just recording what happened but involves using creative nonfiction tools to shape your story. Readers hunger for meaning, so a successful memoir will provide that. And finally, how you tell the story is a product of your voice, an elusive but critical part of everything we write.
Whether you are just thinking about writing memoir, are currently writing one, or are ready to revise your draft, this workshop will help move you forward. Participants will receive a copy of Writing the Memoir: From Truth to Art, by Judith Barrington.
